Princess's Story

Princess came back to the Refuge when her family's life circumstance changed. She is lovingly called our "brillo pad" since her old age has made her rough coat very wiry and coarse to the touch. She adores her walks, loves sniffling in the bushes for rodents and has a three legged run which would put any four legged Jack Russell to shame. Princess will spend the rest of her days being cared for by the Refuge volunteers and made comfortable and happy into her old age.

Stella's Story

A JRT mix with the most haunting eyes, Stella has seen so much in her lifetime that one cannot imagine what she has endured. She was captured in a hav-a-hart trap in Brooklyn last year -- a feral dog born on the street, had puppies on the street and never had any positive contact with humans. But for all that has befallen her, she is a very kind dog with no inclination to bite.

Stella has been a major project. She now accepts the leash and truly loves long country walks and though not quite comfortable being petted, she is finally discovering "play." Stella is a wonderful, deserving, mysterious creature...and her eyes are becoming softer every day.

Bandit's Story

Bandit is a funny looking little JRT mix; all brown with white paws and a tip on his tail. He was dropped off here extremely frightened but has improved enough to be handled by all of us. Bandit counts on his "routine" of breakfast, play time, nap time, cookie time, dinner time, cookie time again and bed time; any deviation is upsetting to him. He has found his security and enjoys life fully. What a joy to see him run, leap with glee over and over again, roll in the grass and then run some more.

The left side of Bandit's face was somehow injured before he came here, resulting in a "flat area" and the loss of sight in that eye.

DeeDee's Story

DeeDee was returned from her 4th home and it's inhumane to put her through another try. Her last home described her as fierce and assertive which is what we all love about her. Like Ashely used to, DeeDee marched right back into the kennel and into the swing of things. She has found her forever home here.

Freddie's Story

Freddie was rescued from death row several years ago. He's a good dog who thrives on routine and greets those he is familiar with by wagging his lovely long tail. He has found his forever home here.

Helena's Story

She is an old girl who is much loved. Helena came to us several years ago after her owner died and no one in the family wanted her. We are all very attached to this lovely little deaf terrier who appears happy and settled with her routine. She has found her forever home here.
