Jack's Story
Progress Reports Jack and the Refuge are in need of your Financial HelpJack, a 7 year old Jack Russell Terrier from a New York shelter, required extensive surgery to his ears. Jack had a growth that was covering his entire right ear lobe which was the result of an ear infection that was not properly cared for. This was causing Jack extreme pain and discomfort and he was itching it so much it bled constantly. A specialist at the Long Island Veterinary Hospital for Special Surgery performed an ablation to Jack's left ear and also performed some minor surgery to the right upper ear canal. The operation stopped the pain and help clear the ear infection. Jack already was partially deaf due to the infection, so the resulting deafness after the surgery does not seem to be a hindrance to his enjoyment of his new pain free life. The infection will most likely require extensive surgery in the future for the other ear, we'll hope not for a long time to come. The surgery was simple, but very invasive. Poor Jack was in the hospital for three nights - he is such a trooper. However, the operation was a success and he is beginning to enjoy his new "itch free" ears. Jack is now in good hands and we are seeking your assistance to help pay for his surgery. Please consider contributing to help us cover the cost of Jack's surgery. We felt we must make sure that he lives a healthy and pain free life once again. Any amount would help us cover these costs and would be greatly appreciated by the Refuge. Progress Reports
Jack has been back to the vet's several times now and seems to have healed beautifully with his ear. No more scratching, no more pain, just the joy of being healed. The deafness does not seem to bother him one iota. Of course this provides him with an excuse - "I can't hear you calling me"!!!! Surgery on the other ear is now a consideration since it seems that maybe we should prevent the pain and agony he went through with the first. We'll have to make that decision as the funds allow and as the vet advises. Jack is bright, spirited and an affectionate love - this is a life that was saved in the nick of time and again makes us realize how many great dogs are out there in the shelter system waiting to be adopted to a wonderful family. Please remember that rescuing and adopting is the greatest gift you can give to a dog - with some patience, work, care and love all Jack Russells (and any dog for that matter) can become little marvels - they need to know they can heal and be loved for it!!! Thank you all for your support with Jack - updates will continue as we progress. The volunteers at the Refuge. Thank you. ![]() Donate to Help JackPlease donate to help with Jack's long term care and feeding. We need to raise $2,300 for Jack's medical expenses. You can make a direct donation (via PayPal).
