Beyond the gate, in a world of its own, lies our little kennel - a refuge for unwanted Jack Russell Terriers that come from shelters or homes where they are no longer welcome. It is a place of peace and understanding, offering the opportunity to heal from the traumas imposed on them simply for being what they are.

We have many dogs here at the Refuge that are not pictured. We may have the perfect dog for you! It will help us to get to know you better. Our goal is to place terriers in happy, forever homes where the adopting party and dogs are both winners. He gets along well with other dogs but we think he would do best as the center of attention in a quiet home. Not a fan of other dogs but could live with a kind male in an adult only home. This little cutie is ready to start her new life wrapped in someone's arms. Like her mother, Mouse, Gidget came from a puppy mill situation. He has found a new life here and loves rolling in the grass and eating good food. A friendly dog who needs house training, Henry will do best as an only pet. Found as a stray, Henry was emaciated (starving actually) and had scars on his head along with ears that had been chewed on by something or were frostbitten. He has some allergies but is doing well on allergy free foods. With gentle care, she is now discovering herself and plays outside with both confidence and exuberance. Jenny could get along in a home with a non threatening male dog. Loves to be cuddled. A shy and timid girl before she makes her move but then we’re off to the races with love, action and lots of play. Likes other dogs and we think the answer to Maggie's happiness is to have a good male dog as a buddy. Though she's been around other dogs all her life, she is selective about those she likes. We think she may do best as an only pet. Mouse needs a little house training but this is one friendly, deserving dog. Mouse and her daughter, Gidget, came from a puppy mill situation where they had been bred extensively. Though we're not sure of her age, we think Mouse is one of those physically tough terriers who will enjoy longevity.   Rhinebeck, NY

Roscoe was a NYC stray. Well behaved, likes all people, is quiet, house clean and just beautiful. She needs secure fencing and a good exercise progam. Roxy is very fit and accustomed to going on lengthy walks/runs on lead. A sweet and quiet girl who would rather snuggle on the sofa and play in the yard with her toys then go for a walk. Sadie prefers the company of humans but may get along with a like minded male. Sadie is well house trained, loves to ride in the car and her toy of choice is a plastic bottle. This young terrier broke our hearts with her terrified look, trying to hide in the gutter of the shelter run. Captured in the woods, we think she may be feral so her adoptability is questionable but we want you to see her anyway. Shy Girl is friends with Gem and they are housed together. She is a very young dog. There is hope for her. We want to give Shy Girl a chance to eventually come around and be adoptable to that special person who will be an angel for this angel of a dog.   Rhinebeck, NY		Thyme Sex: Female Age: 2 years Coat: Rough Color: Tri-color Available Apply to Adopt       Donation for Thyme Thyme needs an extra special home. She loves other dogs and loves to play but with humans, she needs to learn to gain your trust. And when you do you will have the most precious, sweet, quiet, well behaved and clean terrier around. Thyme was a show dog, walks politely on a leash and loves long walks. She also loves to play crazy jack in a fenced area, just give her some toys to fetch. Thyme will reward whomever gives her the chance at being a dog again but she might prefer that a woman would take her into her life forever.   Rhinebeck, NY

She is active, extremely kind and finds most activities interesting with an accepting attitude. She attracts attention wherever she goes with her happy go lucky manners and beautiful, albeit different looks. We all fall for something different from time to time. I saw her on the shelter list in Tennessee along with Shy Girl and had them both sent north. Not sure of Gem's breeding but suspect she will mature into a medium sized dog. He is a sweet/kind dog who needs to learn what it is to be a house dog He will be better as an only dog. He would do best with a fenced yard where he can play with his toys and get to run around. Kimbo was found tied outside with no owner, left alone until someone called the CACC. He does not seem to want to share his space with others of his kind.   Rhinebeck, NY

She was a show dog and bred and now is looking for her forever home where she can play like crazy, go for nice leisurely strolls and even maybe have a playmate since she loves other dogs. House clean, walks well on a leash and would be a great pal for someone who is home most of the time. Scout is rooming with Jack but would probably prefer to have her people all to herself. Sonny Sex: Male Age: 8 years Coat: Smooth Color: Tan/white Adopted Sonny is ultra clean with a very soft temperament. Quiet and loyal, he demands very little from his humans. Likes some female dogs, he can be picky and seems to be cat friendly. He has led a very sheltered life but loves his people very much. Sonny loves to go for long walks exploring the smells outside but will also be quite content to snuggle with you when you are home.   Rhinebeck, NY
