Save A Jack Russell Terrier

Beyond the gate, in a world of its own, lies our little kennel - a refuge for unwanted Jack Russell Terriers that come from shelters or homes where they are no longer welcome. It is a place of peace and understanding, offering the opportunity to heal from the traumas imposed on them simply for being what they are. Most of the dogs that come here go on to wonderful, loving homes, leading lives befitting their nature... some never do. The few who have not been so fortunate enough to be adopted due to old age or behavioral issues from misuse have pretty much become permanent residents.

We have many dogs here at the Refuge that are not pictured. We may have the perfect dog for YOU!! But once he befriends you, he is a joy to spend time with. House clean and a tremendous snuggler. JP is very worried about being at the Refuge. Strangers make him uncomfortable though he quickly warms to those who show him kindness and then he is all love and play. Running around just for the joy of it, going wherever you go and snuggling are at the top of her "what I like to do" list. This compact gem of a shorty will need to time to adapt to his forever home. PT is very sweet and loves being with people. Petey came to us after his owner passed away; we suspect some of his discomfort is caused by grief. Freddie is very active and athletic. He is quite handsome too! We think he could excel at agility or racing. Being an only dog in an adult home would suit him best. We saved Freddie from death row at a kill shelter and are we glad we did! He is a sweet/kind dog who needs to learn what it is to be a house dog He will be better as an only dog. He would do best with a fenced yard where he can play with his toys and get to run around. Jakey Sex: Male Age: 8 months Coat: Broken Color: Brown/white Adopted Jakey is a happy and playful pup who needs a gentle but firm hand to bring out the best he has to offer. Very smart and sweet natured, Jakey would do best in a structured environment. Jakey definitely needs a fenced yard since he's not yet a fan of going for a walk on a leash. A wonderful companion for someone who works from home as he needs both attention and a routine he can count on.   Rhinebeck, NY		Romeo Sex: Male Age: 7 years Coat: Rough Color: Black/white Adopted Romeo is a lively and vibrant terrier who is the best escape artist we've ever seen. Very clever and agile, we can't help but smile when he appears where he's not supposed to be. Upon being caught, he is ever so charming. Romeo was adopted from the Refuge several years ago and came back to us when his owner had to go into a nursing home. Though he appears to enjoy his long walks, we can see that he is very lonely as he's used to being an only dog.   Rhinebeck, NY

He's very well mannered in the house and a true explorer on walks. Teddie needs some time and patience to build back his confidence, and a pat on the head by a gentle hand. Teddie is such a sweet little guy. Always wanting to please and enjoys just hanging out AFTER he's had plenty of run and play time so a fenced yard is a must.   Rhinebeck, NY
