Beyond the gate, in a world of its own, lies our little kennel - a refuge for unwanted Jack Russell Terriers that come from shelters or homes where they are no longer welcome. It is a place of peace and understanding, offering the opportunity to heal from the traumas imposed on them simply for being what they are.

We have many dogs here at the Refuge that are not pictured. We may have the perfect dog for you! It will help us to get to know you better. Our goal is to place terriers in happy, forever homes where the adopting party and dogs are both winners. Abby Sex: Female Age: 2 years Coat: Smooth Color: Brown/white Available Apply to Adopt       Donation for Abby Abby may be small in stature but she has a big attitude and a lot of energy. And a lot of love to share. Though blind in one eye, she is a very healthy, smart and sweet dog who deserves the commitment to house training and some obedience work. Abby was found as a stray in the Newark projects. She was emaciated and taken in by an all breed shelter who kept care of her before she came to the Refuge. A tallish terrier with "angel kisses" on his brow who is friendly to all. Pepper gets along with other dogs and in general appears to be very easy to live with. Calm and always has a happy face. Pepper was picked up by animal control as a stray but since he's a bit overweight, we do not believe he was on the streets for long; no signs of ill treatment or abuse. It's sometimes difficult to assess a dog in a kennel environment, but we believe Pepper is a truly good dog.   Rhinebeck, NY

Buddy's cataract surgery was successful and he has been cleared by Dr. Ringle as his eye is now healed and 100 percent okay. Fifteen inches of pure energy and exuberance, she needs a terrier savvy home to deal with all she has to give. A challenge worth taking for this sweet girl. Harriet can be a bit bossy with other dogs in order to get them to play with her. She'll run, chase, take a short break and then go again. Fun to watch but even more fun to join in. But once he befriends you, he is a joy to spend time with. House clean and a tremendous snuggler. JP is very worried about being at the Refuge. Strangers make him uncomfortable though he quickly warms to those who show him kindness and then he is all love and play. He is a sweet/kind dog who needs to learn what it is to be a house dog He will be better as an only dog. He would do best with a fenced yard where he can play with his toys and get to run around. Kimbo was found tied outside with no owner, left alone until someone called the CACC. Libby is very selective about the male terriers she likes to spend time with. Sparky Two Sex: Male Age: 2 years Coat: Rough Color: White Available Apply to Adopt       Donation for Sparky Two Sparky is a shy little terrier mix but take him for a walk and you will find a friend for life. His curiousity about his surroundings is as charming as he is. Snuggles follow long walks and going for a drive; Sparky loves going for rides in the car. This sweet (less then 12" tall) little guy is rather quiet and reserved so he would do best with a female dog with the same demeanor. He enjoys playing with other dogs though he can be a bit bossy; older kids are best for this active terrier. DJ also enjoys sharing his interest in new things by barking about them.
